Orton's Fruit Market, known for Apple picking, apple eating and family gatherings is proudly celebrating over 75 years in serving Northeast Pa and Erie, Pa as a high quality local farmers market. Orton's Fruit Market and Vegetable Farm are five generations deep serving the community and worldwide travelers with a taste of western pa's homegrown apples, grapes and produce.
The family farm started as a dairy farm in the late 1800's with Orton delivering milk on two covered wagons to neighbors in the community. When his son Howard turned 19, he went off to work in a bank coming home on weekends to help his father work the farm delivering apples into Pittsburgh.
Because of his love of the land and being a forward thinker he purchased an additional 140 acres to plant an additional orchard crop, quit his job at the bank and in 1938 opened Orton's Fruit Market standing on Old Route 89 providing local produce.
Howard transcended his passion to his son Lewis Orton who at the age of 79 is still actively working the farm, working fourteen-hour days, spraying cutting and harvesting crops. Lewis and Marilyn have nine children and his second son Michael followed his father and grandfather in cultivating the land to deliver premium products to his neighbors.
